NAVIGATING THE AI FRONTIER: TRANSFORMATIVE PEDAGOGY AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN EFL TEACHER EDUCATION
researcher, Jizzakh
Annotatsiya
The rapid integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is fundamentally reshaping the landscape of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction and teacher preparation. This thesis examines the dual role of AI as both a productivity enhancer and a pedagogical partner in teacher development. Drawing on case studies from Vietnam, Mexico, Uzbekistan, and Indonesia, the research explores how frameworks such as Intelligent-Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (I-TPACK) and Farrell’s reflective practice cycles support pre-service teachers in moving beyond superficial tool use toward critical, ethical, and context-aware integration. Findings indicate that while AI tools like ChatGPT and Curipod significantly enhance lesson structural quality and teacher confidence [3, 152; 1, 3], their effectiveness is contingent upon structured professional development that prioritizes ethical agency and "human-in-the-loop" pedagogical design [2, 48; 7, 396]. This study concludes that AI serves as a vital digital scaffold, necessitating a shift in teacher education toward critical AI literacy and collaborative mediation.
