“ STYLISTIC AND EXPRESSIVE POTENTIAL OF SPORTS LANGUAGE”

This article examines the stylistic and expressive potential of sports language in modern English sports discourse. The study focuses on the linguistic mechanisms through which sports language performs not only an informative function but also an emotional, evaluative, persuasive and entertainment-oriented role. Particular attention is paid to sports commentary, journalistic sports texts and media discourse, where lexical choice, metaphor, repetition, intensification, evaluative adjectives, phraseological units and syntactic compression create a high level of expressiveness. The research is based on discourse analysis, stylistic analysis and contextual interpretation of sports language units. The findings show that sports language is a dynamic communicative system in which terminology, emotional vocabulary and stylistic devices interact to produce immediacy, tension, audience involvement and cultural meaning. The article argues that the stylistic richness of sports language is closely connected with the social importance of sport, the real-time nature of sports communication and the need to combine narration, information and entertainment.
